Mint Chutney – Pudina Chutney Recipe

Mint chutney is extremely flavored condiment. This Indian mint chutney recipe is quite popular across the country and is made from fresh mint leaves.

In south India, it is also known as pudina chutney (పుదినా పచ్చడి). Learn how to make mint chutney recipe in easy steps.

Chutney is an important item in south Indian cuisine. Mint being an aromatic herb, brings a pleasant flavour to any dish when added.

Pudina chutney, a famous side dish for most chat items and in the main course has a lot of importance in Indian cuisine.

The regular mint chutney with cilantro is the very commonly used one. However, this is another version of mentha chutney that can be used with roti, rice or as a spread to your sandwiches.

Indian Mint Chutney – Pudina Chutney Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Mint – 2 cups
  • Dry roasted peanuts – ½ cup
  • Green chillies – 8
  • Oil – 2 tsp
  • 3-4 shelled deseeded tamarind pods
  • Jeera – ¼ tsp
  • Salt as needed
  • Tempering:
  • Cumin – ¼ tsp
  • Mustard seeds – ¼ tsp
  • Urad dal – ¼ tsp
  • Chana dal – ¼ tsp
  • Curry leaves – 1 tbsp

Instructions:

  1. Wash the mint thoroughly with salt water to clean off the pesticide content.
  2. Take 1 tsp of oil in a shallow pan and sauté the chilles and keep aside.
  3. In the same pan, sauté the mint for about 5 min with continuous stirring.
  4. Take all the remaining ingredients in a mixer jar and grind to a coarse paste adding very little water.
  5. Temper this chutney to elevate the flavour of mint in the chutney. Transfer this to a serving bowl and use as needed.

Notes:

* Prefer fresh pudina for good flavour. Well, I have a bunch of fresh mints growing in the balcony and use it as and when required.

  • ¼ tsp Chana dal
  • 1 tsp Curry leaves
